GALLANT DEON

by Colleen Elayne Parent Crawford

 Our brother-in-law, Deon Bringhurst,

Is the one I always remember first.

He married my sister when I was ten;

After that I saw him quite often.

His Mother dies when he was well grown.

Just about ready to go out on his own.

His Father was a good man, even great,

And seemed somewhat able to compensate.

He has four sisters younger than him,

His responsibility they've always been.

They really appreciate his generosity

And return it with fine hospitality.

He is the best at making pecan pies.

It is my favorite as you might surmise.

He has a keen but subtle wit;

By it I have been soundly bit!

In Summer we took lovely evening walks,

But when boxing was on there was no talk!

He made my sixteenth birthday wish come true,

When he took me to the glider field and we flew!

In October he came to Utah to hunt deer.

He usually got at least one, never fear!

He used the scraps in a conglomeration, scrapple.

With eggs it slid right past my Adam’s apple.

His skill as a dentist is beyond compare;

To find such a good one is very rare!

He installed two bridges between my teeth,

They are a wonder to all who "seeth"!

Lila and family keep him on the run,

But he always makes time for fun.

He is the most loving man I ever saw,

Their babies definitely knew their "Papa".

He quietly goes about his life

And is a great strength to his wife!

I fear he married into a "crazy" family,

But he bears us all so gallantly!

About "love" we seldom spare the words,

So where do they hear it? From the birds?

So we write them here for all to see,

We'll love Deon through all eternity!
